Russell Sage Softball Assists NYSSO in Training School

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The New York State Softball Officials Organization (NYSSO) oversees 1400+ NYS High School softball umpires across all 11 Sections in the state.  Each year, they host a 3-day training school up in Saratoga Springs, NY where some 40-50 umpires sign up to receive instruction from NYSSO clinicians.  This year the Russell Sage Softball Team volunteered time and talent to assist with live drills and instruction on both Friday and Saturday.  Their participation makes “live play” more realistic, helps train new umpires, supports the entire softball community.

Formed in 1977, NYSSO is affiliated with the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) under whoe ausipices it has exclusive rights to all high school softball played in the 11 sections of New York state. All play is governed by National Federation of State High Schools (NFHS) rules with NYS specific modifications. 

NYSSO is comprised of 28 local chapters, each of which is responsible for training and certifying officials under the eight point program mandated by NYSPHAA.
