WEBSTER, NY – SUNY Geneseo shattered a 15-year old record in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the Knights lead after day two of the 2026 Empire 8 Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held the Webster Aquatic Center on Thursday, February 19.
The nationally-ranked Knights have 601 team points to pace the field with ahead of SUNY Brockport, who has 309 points, while Hartwick College is third with 257 points. Nazareth University is sitting fourth with 215 points, while Alfred University is fifth with 129 points.
Geneseo’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Alex Sotek, Erin Johannsen, Sibby Lowe, and Emily McCord wrapped up the evening by recording an NCAA “B” cut qualifying time in the 200-yard freestyle relay, winning by more than three seconds in a time of 1:33.96, which shattered the all-time E8 mark of 1:34.00 set by Stevens in 2011.
Abby Funk of SUNY Geneseo, who won the 500-yard freestyle last night, won for the second straight evening, this time in the 200-yard freestyle by just under a second over teammate Hannah Brockman with a time of 1:55.39. That was the same order of finish in the event last season.
Sotek also earned an individual victory for the second straight evening, annexing the 100-yard butterfly over teammate Sibby Lowe by just under two seconds in a time of 56.28 seconds. Senior Aubrey Vaile of Hartwick placed third.
Like Funk and Sotek, Chloe Marcyan of Geneseo was victorious for the second straight night, winning the 400-yard individual medley by just under three seconds in a time of 4:35.53. Emily LeFrois-Heath of Nazareth, last year’s 400-IM champion earned runner-up honors, while Elizabeth Share of Alfred was third.
Geneseo’s Morgan Davey won the Empire 8 Championship in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 462.00 points, just ahead of teammate Lydia Benjamin, who recorded a score of 452.85. Brylee Weisenburg of SUNY Brockport was third.
Day three action begins with the prelims at 10 a.m. on Friday. Day three finals events begin at 5:30 p.m.
