WEBSTER, NY – SUNY Geneseo’s 200-yard medley relay team broke its own league record, as the Knights continue to lead after day three of the 2026 Empire 8 Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held the Webster Aquatic Center on Friday, February 20.
The nationally-ranked Knights have 836.5 team points to pace the field with ahead of SUNY Brockport, who has 523.5 points. Hartwick College is third with 433 points, Nazareth University is in fourth with 330, while Alfred University is fifth with 278 points.
Geneseo started the night with a splash, shattering an their own Empire 8 Championship and overall mark in the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of Alex Sotek, Emily Thomas, Sibby Lowe, Erin Johannsen rolled to a convincing win in an NCAA “B” cut time of 1:42.82, which broke the previous E8 mark by 34 one-hundredths of a second.
Geneseo’s Chloe Marcyan won her second individual event of the week, this time in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.00. She was nearly seven seconds fastest than teammate Maura Sheehan, who earned runner-up accolades.
Elizabeth Share of Alfred, last year’s runner-up, won a stirring 100-yard backstroke final in a time of 58:07 by just 19 one-hundredths of a second over Anna Lowe of Brockport and Maya Marcyan of Geneseo, who finished in a dead heat for second.
Emily Thomas of Geneseo won her second straight league title in the 100-yard breaststroke, rolling to a convincing win by just under five seconds in a time of 1:03.38. She just missed smashing a 17-year old E8 Championship mark by seven one-hundredths of a second.
Geneseo ended the night with a with by 10 seconds in the 800-yard freestyle relay, as the quartet of Abby Funk, Hannah Brockman, Thalia Marquez and Maura O’Donnell won in a time of 7:50.14.
Day four action begins with the prelims at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The concluding finals events begin at 5:30 p.m.
