SUNY Geneseo Claims 2025-26 Empire 8 Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship

Nationally-ranked SUNY Geneseo emerged victorious at the 2025-26 Empire 8 Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championship, held the Golisano Training Center on the campus of Nazareth University on Feb. 27-28.

The Knights, who earned their second straight team title since joining the E8, recorded 222 team points, 82 ahead of SUNY Brockport, who finished with 140 points. Utica University finished with 81 points, while St. John Fisher University was right behind in fourth with 76. Host Nazareth University finished fifth overall with 65 points.
 
SUNY Geneseo won eight events over the two-day championship and used tremendous depth to earn team title.
 
Junior Ryan Hagan set Empire 8 Championship records in both the mile and 800-meter run to earn 2026 Empire 8 Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Meet honors. On Friday night, Hagan won the mile by just under a second in a time of 4:08.04. Hagan also won the 800-meter run on Saturday in an E8 Championship and overall league record time of 1:52.00. Hagan is currently ranked fourth nationally in both the 800-meters and mile this season.
 
Brockport sophomore Dennis Bobbitt was named the 2026 Empire 8 Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet. Bobbitt swept both the long jump and triple jump events over the weekend. Bobbitt won the long jump on Friday with an Empire 8 record leap of 7.38 meters (24’ 2.5”), which is currently the sixth best in Division III to date this season. He also annexed the triple jump with a leap of 14.69 meters (48’ 2.5”). Bobbitt is ranked 11th nationally in Division III in the triple jump.

Pierce Young of Geneseo set an Empire 8 Championship meet record in winning the 3,000-meter run by six seconds for the second straight season in a time of 8:14.19. Jack Towns took the 200-meter dash for the second straight year, crossing the finish line first in 22.04 seconds.

Geneseo's 4 x 400-meter relay team of Gian Carlo Di Fava, Jacob Miller, Arjun Ojha and Sam Belmont rolled to a five second win in the final event of the meet, setting an E8 Championship record with a time of 3:15.26.
 
St. John Fisher senior Brandon Kaplan won the E8 Championship in the weight throw, recording a championship record winning toss of 19.16 meters (62’10.5”). It was his second straight E8 Championship in the event. Trystan Biller of the Cardinals claimed the 60-meter hurdles title by 14 one-hundredths of a second in 8.23 seconds.
 
Derek Grimshaw of Brockport won the 60-meter dash for the second straight season in a time of 6.85 seconds, as the entire championship field was separated by just 25 one-hundredths of a second. Cody Bazemore of Hartwick earned runner-up honors.
 
Kaiden McCaskill of Utica won the high jump title, clearing 1.96 meters (6’5”).
