Jack Bierman were named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for Week 1 of the Division III College Football season on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Bierman, a native of Corning, NY, set career highs in total tackles (10), tackles for a loss of yards (4) and sacks (2) in St. John Fisher's 38-8 victory over FDU-Florham. Both of his sacks came on fourth-down plays inside St. John Fisher territory in the first half, and the Cardinals' offense cashed in for touchdowns after each. He was named the Empire 8 Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Currier, a native of Oakfield, NY, named the Empire 8 Co-Offensive Player of the Week, led the stout Pioneers offense, rushing for four touchdowns and 217 yards on just 14 carries while averaging an impressive 15.5 yards per attempt in a 74-13 win vs. Thiel. Three of his touchdowns were from over 30 yards out; he had a 60-yard, 45-yard, and a 35-yard rushing touchdown.
Frederick, who hails from Little Falls, NY, was effective in Utica’s 26-11 win over Washington & Jefferson. On his 22nd birthday, the Pioneer tight end led both teams in receptions and receiving yards, totaling eight catches for 101 yards. He helped to convert numerous clutch third-down opportunities and brought the Pioneers to the goal line on many different occasions. Frederick, a 2025 All-American, was as versatile as last season, as he was utilized in both the long and short game, hauling in multiple passes of 20-plus yards while also racking up 56 yards after the catch.
All eight E8 teams are in action on Saturday, Sept. 13, all against Liberty League opponents. Utica hosts Rensselaer at 6 p.m., while each of the other seven games kickoff at noon.
