Respect the Game

Respect the Game

In 2009 the Empire 8 rolled out its Men's Soccer "Respect the Game" initiative. It is aimed at improving sporting behavior amongst participants while also encouraging fans to exhibit positive sporting behavior. In this regard, the Empire 8 (Presidents, Commissioner, Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators and Head Coaches) have asked contest officials to consistently enforce all sportsmanship rules for athletes and coaches.

The officials will not tolerate any negative statements or unsportsmanlike actions between opposing players, especially dissent, vulgar language, trash talking or baiting of opponents. Furthermore, only an on field captain has the authority to address the officiating crew.

This individual will be visible by wearing an arm band. Participants will recognize their responsibility for proper conduct before, during and after every contest and support the Empire 8 as they represent the best values and ideals of outstanding soccer and "Compete with Honor and Integrity."
