Tournament Format


***For 2022***

The 2022 Empire 8 Conference Baseball Tournament will feature the conference's top four teams from regular season play. The No. 1 seed will host the No. 4 seed, while the No. 2 seed will also host the No. 3 seed in a best-of-three semifinals that begins on Friday, May 6 at the higher seeds. The best-of-three championship round will take place starting with on Friday, May 13 at the highest remaining seed. The Empire 8 Champion earns an automatic berth into the 2022 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

The E8 tournament will be hosted by the top seed. If the top seed is unable to host then hosting duties can be given to the second seed. If the host site has a facility with lights, game times may be adjusted with approval from the conference office.

Game 1: 12pm (#1 v #4)
Game 2: 3:30 pm (#2 v #3)
 
Friday - Day 2
Game 3: 10am (Loser game #1 v loser Game #2)
Game 4: 1pm (Winner game #1 v Winner Game #2)
Game 5: 4pm (Winner game #3 v Loser Game #4)
 
Saturday - Day 3
Game 6: 12pm (Winner game #4 v Winner game #5)
Game 7: 3:30pm (if necessary)

In the event the tournament is unable to be played, the champion will be the team finishing first in the regular season and receiving the top seed in the conference tournament. In the event the tournament has begun but unable to be completed, the champion will be determined using the following policy.
0 games played – Highest Seed
1 Game played – Highest Seed
2 games played – Highest undefeated seed
3 games played – Highest undefeated seed
4 games played – Winner of Game #4
5 Games played – Winner of Game #5
6 Games played – Winner of game #6, except if there is still a tie, and then head to head competition will be examined. If a tie still remains, run differential between the teams will be used (run differential = runs scored minus runs allowed with a limit of 8 runs maximum per game).
