Baseball Makeup/Postponement Policy


1. ALL CONFERENCE POSTPONEMENTS/MAKEUPS MUST BE PLAYED
            a.         A point system will be used to determined which teams make the postseason tournament, so games must be played in order to earn points for wins and ties.
 
2. CONFERENCE POSTPONEMENT/MAKEUPS FINAL THREE WEEKS OF THE SEASON
a.         Any game postponed within the last three weeks of regular season play must be made up the next day there is not a conference game scheduled. For example, if it is in the last three week window and an institution had to postpone a Sunday game due to rain but also has a non-conference game slated for Monday, they will move the non-conference game to an alternate date and play the postponed conference game on Monday.
 
3. ALL OTHER POSTPONEMENTS/MAKEUPS
a.       Conference games will supersede non-conference games in determining makeup dates.
 
b.      A makeup date and time must be established no later than 48 hours after the regularly-scheduled start time of the postponed game.
 
c.      Sundays are the makeup days for games postponed from the preceding Friday and Saturday.
            EXCEPTION: If the makeup is scheduled to be played at Houghton, AND involved a visiting team that is not staying overnight, Monday will be used as the makeup date.
 
d.       Forecasted Changes – If both athletic directors and the conference office agree that the forecast would impede the ability to complete scheduled games, a mutual date, time and location may be agreed upon within the parameters noted in Section 2 and 3 above, unless it is in the final three weeks of the season as noted above in Section 3.
 
4. CONFERENCE POSTPONEMENT/MAKEUPS WEEKEND PLAY 
a.       Postponement Prior to Visiting Team’s Arrival on Friday
·         Location will not change
·         First proposed makeup date will be Sunday
·         If Sunday is unplayable, the game will be played at the original host team’s site on a date agreed upon by both athletic directors and approved by the conference within the parameters noted in Section 2 and 3 above, unless it is in the final three weeks of the season as noted above in Section 3.
 
b.       Postponement After Visiting Team’s Arrival on Friday
·         First proposed makeup date will be Sunday at the originally scheduled site
·         If Sunday is unplayable, the game will be played at a date, time and location agreed upon by both athletic directors and approved by the conference office within the parameters noted in Section 2 and 3 above, unless it is in the final three weeks of the season as noted above in Section 3.
 
c.       Postponement Prior to Visiting Team’s Arrival on Saturday
·         Location will not change
·         First proposed makeup date will be Sunday
·         If Sunday is unplayable, the game will be played at the original host team’s site on a date agreed upon by both athletic directors and approved by the conference office within the parameters noted in Section 2 and 3 above, unless it is in the final three weeks of the season as noted above in Section 3.
 
d.      Postponement After Visiting Team’s Arrival on Saturday
·         First proposed makeup date will be Sunday at the originally scheduled site
         If Sunday is unplayable, the game will be played at a date, time and location agreed upon by both athletic directors and approved by the conference office within the parameters noted in Section 2 and 3 above, unless it is in the final three weeks of the season as noted above in Section 3.
 
5. RAIN WEEKEND
a.) The Rain Make-up Weekend will be kept in the schedule to address any unique situations that might arise. (i.e. an extremely rainy block of time that backs the schedule up and would require an inordinate expense or excessive time away from class if the policies above were to be implemented. These exceptions to policy (use of “rain weekend”) would need to be approved by both AD’s and the Conference Office.
