Hartwick College senior forward Jared Suderley was named the Empire 8 Men's Basketball Championship Most Valuable Player after helping guide the Hawks to their second conference title on Saturday. Suderley led all scorers with 27 points on 10-15 shooting and grabbed seven boards in Friday’s semifinal 9-85 win over Alfred. In the 67-62 championship win over third-seeded Nazareth, Suderley finished with 21 points as he eclipsed the 2,000 point mark for his career. He also added 14 rebounds to his stat line. Hartwick earned automatic qualification to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships and will be making its second appearance in the last three years.
