Amber Smith played a key role in helping secure the Saxons' best season start since 1991 with the Saxons opening with a three-match win streak and also ending a 17-year winless drought against Buffalo State. The weekend also produced the first time the Saxons took SUNY Cortland to five sets. Smith totaled 72 kills (4.0 kills per set) in her first collegiate outings with back-to-back 21-kill performances against Wells College and SUNY Cortland on Saturday. On the weekend she totaled 81 digs (4.5 per set), 15 blocks and 86.5 points (4.81 per set)
