Dempsey automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a season-best leap of 5.07 meters in the pole vault while competing in the NYSCTC decathlon. He finished second in the 13-field decathlon in his first time in the competition. Dempsey won the pole vault (4.70 meters) on Saturday.
