GENESEO, NY - The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team defeated SUNY Polytechnic Institute by a score of 2-0 on Saturday, claiming the Empire 8 regular season title and the No.1 seed in the upcoming postseason tournament. HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The game started with even pressure from both teams, each putting up a strong offensive front in the opening minutes. The momentum changed in the 26th minute after Dylan Thody sent a perfect ball across the crease, connecting with Aidan Lodie for the Knights first goal.
  • The Knights struck again just two minutes later, with Eric Famularo picking up a blocked shot from Thody and sending it bottom left to extend the lead. Geneseo continued to push through the rest of the half, putting up four more shots before half.
  • The second half proved to be a more physical battle between the teams. Geneseo saw great opportunities from Connor Guercia and Lodie, but neither were able to find the back of the net. The Knights held strong through the final 45 minutes of play to take home the 2-0 win.
