SUNY Geneseo leads after Wednesday at 2026 Empire 8 Women's Swimming and Diving Championships

WEBSTER, NY – SUNY Geneseo won all four events and leads after day one of the 2026 Empire 8 Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held the Webster Aquatic Center on Wednesday, February 18.
 
The nationally-ranked Knights have 301 team points to pace the field with ahead of SUNY Brockport, who has 144 points, Hartwick College is third with 106 points, while Nazareth University has 93 points and Alfred University, who has 46 points.
 
In a near repeat of last season, Abby Funk of SUNY Geneseo kicked off the evening by winning the 500-yard freestyle for the second straight year by just over 27 one-hundredths of a second over teammate Hannah Brockman with a time of 5:04.68.
 
First-year standouts Chloe Marcyan and Molly McGourty of Geneseo finished 1-2 in the 200-yard individual medley. Marcyan was the race winner in 2:09.29, while defending champion Emily LeFrois-Heath of Nazareth placed third.
 
Alex Sotek of SUNY Geneseo recorded an NCAA “B” cut time in winning the 50-yard freestyle for the second straight season in a time of 23.21 seconds. Teammate Erin Johannsen was second, while Anna Lowe of SUNY Brockport placed third.
 
Sotek teamed with Maya Marcyan, Emily Thomas and Johannsen to end the evening by earning an NCAA “B” cut qualifying time in the 400-yard medley relay, winning by nearly 15 seconds in a time of 3:48.78.
