Nazareth Head Coach Kevin Broderick Wins 500th Game as Golden Flyers Defeat SUNY Geneseo

ROCHESTER, NY - Nazareth Men's Basketball (16-6, 11-2) took down SUNY Geneseo (13-9, 9-4), 79-69, in the team's final regular season home game Saturday afternoon inside Kidera Gymnasium. The win gives Head Coach Kevin Broderick his 500th career victory, ranking him among the top 10 active Division III coaches for overall wins. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  •  The Golden Flyers won the tip for a strong start. Merritt Holly registered the first basket for the Flyers before Solomon McFarlane tied things up 5-5 with a long distance three to beat the shot clock.
  • Jaylen Savage knocked down his first two free-throws next, keeping the game close. Luke Insley drove to the basket to take the lead, 9-8. Zachary McFarland hit a two-point jumper followed by three shot furthering the Flyers lead. 
  • Nazareth led 14-10 during the first time-out with 13:12  to go in the half. Efforts from Savage, McFarlane and Holly brought the Golden Flyers' lead to double digits with less than 10 minutes to go in the first half. 
  • Tyler Putney hits his first three of the night sending the Knights into a time-out. 
  • Savage and Insley both drove into the paint taking the Knights defense head on for a few layups. 
  • Nazareth led at the half by six, 39-33. 
  • The Golden Flyers started slow in the second half losing the lead 40-39 before McFarlane pulled the Golden Flyers back ahead by two. 
  • Efforts from McFarlane, Holly and Insley pushed the Flyers back to a double-digit lead against the Knights with 14 minutes left in the second half. 
  • McFarland recorded a run with five made 3-pointers and a steal for a breakaway layup to send Geneseo into a full time-out with the Golden Flyers ahead 63-47. 
  • After a well run play, McFarland hit an open corner three, lighting a fire for the Golden Flyers. Nazareth followed up with two-point drives from Savage and Insley keeping the Golden Flyers up by 17 with three minutes left in the game. 
  • Geneseo took back to back time outs with 52 seconds left in the game to make it 79-67 before Nazareth closed out the contest, 79-69. 
GAME NOTES
  • Luke Insley led Nazareth with 20 points, shooting 9 of 13. He also added a team-high six assists. 
  • Zachary McFarland finished with a career-best 19 points, knocking down five 3-pointers. He also had four rebounds and one steal.
  • Solomon McFarlane scored 14 points, shooting 5 of 8 from the field, including 3 of 5 from three. He also added two steals.
  • Jaylen Savage added 13 points while shooting 5 of 7 from the floor. He also contributed five rebounds and five assists.
  • Merritt Holly posted his 11th double-double of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
