Tomorrow's Leaders Compete Here: Leo Pamphile, Alfred University

Football | 10/1/2019 4:17:49 PM

Senior Leo Pamphile of the Alfred University football team is in his second season as a starter on the defensive line, as he has already established himself as one of the toughest defensive stalwarts in the Empire 8. Whether it is breaking through an offensive line, or leading his fellow Saxons, Pamphile is proving that he will fight hard to improve himself, to help his team.

In addition to being named one of the three captains of the Saxons this year, Pamphile has also spent time off the field to better gain knowledge and experience to better himself and gain the tools to improve others’ lives as he travels down the road of life. He was a 2019 NCAA Division III Immersion Program participant, 2019 NCAA Convention attendee, 2019 NCAA Next Step Program participant and a 2019 NCAA Sports Forum Attendee. Pamphile has also given back to his community by participating in Read Across America, Concern for Youth Recreational Day and Youth Football Developmental Camp Day.

What is Your Ultimate Professional Goal?: My ultimate professional goal is to be an Athletic Director.

How Has Playing in the Empire 8 Prepared You for Life After College?: Playing in the Empire 8 has prepared me for life after college in many ways. I was blessed with the opportunity of attending Alfred University, which is like a huge extended family. In addition to that, playing football here has allowed me to be more than just another athlete. I was granted the opportunity to represent the university as well as the conference in the NCAA Division III Immersion program, as well as attend the NCAA Convention in Orlando, Florida. These opportunities have allowed me to make connections and network with individuals that I could potentially work with in the future.

What Have You Learned About Yourself from Freshman to Senior Year?: SO MUCH GROWTH! From year one to year four, I’ve learned so much about myself. I can and will persevere through anything. Being a full-time student athlete in college for four years is a task that not many people could successfully accomplish. Doing this I’ve learned that all it takes is determination, focus, and by God’s grace it will all get done.

What Type of Leader Are You?: I would consider myself a vocal leader that also leads by example.

One Thing Most People Do Not Know About You: I was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti

Advice for Freshmen Teammates or Student-Athletes: There are a couple things I’d advise my freshmen teammates or any freshmen student-athlete. First, use your on-campus resources, starting with the professors. They are key to the success of any student athlete. In addition to that, I would say stick it out. Don’t be afraid of adversity because it will only make you a better person. Don’t give up, it’ll all pay off in the end. Lastly, enjoy EVERY SINGLE MOMENT! It goes by extremely fast.
