UTICA, NY - Mikayla Blumenstock powered the Utica College women's soccer team with a four-goal outing en route to a 5-0 victory over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Wednesday night under the lights at Gaetano Stadium.
Blumenstock's performance solidified her in multiple categories of Utica College history. She broke the program's single-season goal record as she now has 19, passing Michele Tansey who previously held the record since 1993. The senior also jumped to second all-time in points, totaling 66 in only two seasons as a Pioneer. She posted a single-game high in goals as well, with her previous high of three coming on October 9 against SUNY Poly.
Her 19th-minute goal opened the floodgates, as her next three goals, one of which was a header, came in the 24th, 34th and 37th minute. This gave the Pioneers a convincing 4-0 lead, which junior Avery Crossley would build off of in the 44th minute with a goal of her own. Junior Sydney Cook was credited with the assist, making it her second on the evening.
Freshman Eliza Ericson also notched one assist in the effort - her sixth assist this season - which bumps her up to the No. 3 spot in the Empire 8.
Senior goalie Allison Wagner also made history, as she tied UC's career shutout record with this being her 17th over the last four years. She also tabbed her single-season high in the same category with tonight being her sixth shutout of 2019. This slots her at second in the conference in shutouts as well. A tremendous back line effort by the Pioneers limited the Trailblazers to only eight shots, three of which were saved by Wagner.
The Pioneers advance to 9-5-1 with this win, and they are currently tied for fourth place in the conference with a 2-3-1 E8 record. They share this spot with the Houghton Highlanders. UC is now fighting for the final seed in the E8 Tournament, and it could clinch playoffs with a win over Elmira on Saturday and an Alfred loss or tie to Houhgton. Utica could end up tied with Houghton at 10 points, but the Pioneers hold the tiebreaker due to a 3-0 win over the Highlanders on September 21.
Utica will head back on the road for its final match of the season against Nazareth on Saturday at 1 p.m.
