Gary Broadhurst is in his fourth season as the Keuka College women's basketball coach in 2020-21. Broadhurst has enjoyed immediate success at Keuka with a 50-25 record over his first three seasons, leading the Wolves to the 2017-18 NEAC Tournament Championship and berth in the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament. He was named the 2017-18 NEAC and USBWA Rochester Chapter Coach of the Year.

Broadhurst, who also led Keuka to the 2018-19 NEAC Regular Season Championship, has coached six All-NEAC players and 13 NEAC Scholar-Athletes, as the Wolves are primed to make their Empire 8 debut in 2021. He also served as an assistant coach at Keuka from 2014-17 before being named head coach.

Following a successful collegiate playing career at Mohawk Valley Community College and Springfield College, Broadhurst's coaching career began with a pair of assistant positions at Guilford Tech Community College in North Carolina and at Georgia Highlands Community College. Broadhurst entered the Division III ranks at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y. where he served as an assistant and helped guide the men’s basketball team to the Skyline Conference championship game.

Recent Community Service Projects Your Teams or Departments Have Worked On:
  • On-Campus Veterans Day event – Athletics wide event. Members of the women’s basketball team served as ushers to our distinguished guests assisting them to their seats prior to the start of the presentation and from their seats to the dining hall for their honoree dinner.
  • Laura’s Gifts Fundraiser game – team members and their families came together to run a concession stand, bake goods sale, basket raffle, apparel sale, and 50/50 raffle to raise funds for Laura’s Gifts, a non-profit based out of Rochester which aides families battling cancer to ease their financial burdens, specifically around the holidays.
 
How Does The Empire 8 Stand Out Among Other Conferences:
The Empire 8 has a long history of producing teams and individual student-athletes of national level quality while also being recognized as a strong academic conference.
 
Favorite Athletic Memory from Your Time as a Player in College (if applicable):
My very first shot at the collegiate level being a made 3-pointer.
 
Favorite Memory as a Coach/Administrator at Your Current Institution:
Cutting down the nets at SUNY Poly after winning the NEAC tournament in my first season as a head coach.
 
Who Was Your Biggest Mentor and Why:
My father. He was a long time collegiate basketball coach. I could see his love for the game translate to his profession and the passion he brought to the gym everyday as well as the impact he made on the lives of young adults.
 
Most Rewarding Aspect of Being a Coach/Administrator
Seeing the personal growth of my student-athletes from when they arrive as freshmen to when they leave as seniors.
 
What Have You Learned About Yourself as a Leader and In Your Role:
I am fortunate enough to come from a successful coaching tree where I used to think it was all about wins and losses until I saw the impact we as coaches can make on the lives of young adults.
 
What Type of Leader Are You:
I am a Servant Leader. I don’t like to sit back and bark orders. I want to be hands on in the action.
 
What Are Some Positive Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic You Have Experienced?
The Pandemic has forced me to become more creative to work through limitations and restrictions while keeping the team as engaged as possible. I’ve also been able to spend more time around my newborn son, Mikey.
 
How Have You Had to Adjust as a Coach or Administrator to the Pandemic?
I’ve had to improve my time management skills and focus while working from home with my wife, son, and two dogs running around.
 
One Thing Most People Do Not Know About You:
I’m a huge Star Wars fan.
 
Advice for First-Year Student-Athletes:
Your ability or inability to manage your time correctly will determine your level of success in the classroom and on the hardwood.
 
Advice for Graduating Student-Athletes:
Be patient and never stop working hard for what you want. You will not be handed that dream job on day one of the real world. Do not get discouraged and give up on your dreams because it’s always a great day for a great day.
