St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse standouts Joe Post and Nicholas Miller, along with Nazareth College stalwart Tim Vinton were named 2020 Maverik Men’s Division III Media All-Americans presented by Inside Lacrosse. Post earned third team honors, while Miller and Vinton were honorable mention selections.
The effort to pick the All-America lists during the shortened 2020 season was led by Dan Kaplan, Kyle Devitte and Ken Stockmann.
Both student-athletes also earned 2020 Preseason Men's Division III Honorable Mention All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse in late January.
Post, a junior face-off specialist, was off to an incredible start in 2020 for the Cardinals, having won 71.5 percent of his faceoffs taken (98-of-137). He was named the Empire 8 Player of the Week on March 2 and garnered USILA Team of the Week honors on Feb. 25. He won a season-high 27 faceoffs in the season opening win over Ithaca and went 21-of-24 on draws against No. 7 Denison.
In 2019, Post broke his own single-season program record for ground balls (244) while setting a new record for faceoff wins with 336. Both marks broke conference records while the Canandaigua, NY native led the nation in ground balls and ranked second in faceoff wins. He earned 2019 All-Empire 8 first team accolades.
Miller led the Cardinals with 13 goals and was second with 19 points through five games in 2020. He was looking to surpass his incredible 2019 season, which consisted of program and Empire 8 record totals of 82 goals and 114 points to earn First Team All-Conference honors.
The junior attack was on his way to shattering St. John Fisher’s career scoring records before the season was halted. He is now 16 goals and 38 points away from becoming the all-time leader in each category.
St. John Fisher was off to a 3-2 start, ranked No. 12 in the USILA Division III National Poll. The Cardinals were ranked as high as No. 10. The Empire 8 canceled the remainder of its 2019-20 sports season on March 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vinton, a senior face-off specialist, recorded 119 face-off wins (62.6 winning percentage) in the first seven games of the season and also picked up 63 ground balls. He helped the Golden Flyers to a 5-2 record during the shortened season. Overall, Vinton won 491-of-810 draws (60.6 percentage) in four seasons as a Golden Flyer.
