Graduate student and distance standout Kaitlyn Stinson of Utica College was named to the 2019-20 College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA) Division III Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-District 3 Team on May 28.
Stinson, who is one of just 11 student-athletes from New York (District 3) to be recognized, is now eligible to be named an Academic All-American. Those selections will be announced by COSIDA on June 23.
To be considered, a student-athlete must have reached their sophomore year and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30. Nominees must have also made a significant impact on their team's success on the field of play. Stinson becomes the 14th Empire 8 student-athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-Region honors in 2019-20
Stinson, a health studies major, carries a 3.82 grade-point average. Stinson wrapped up her collegiate career in fine fashion this season, culminating her third straight Empire 8 Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year honor. She recorded an impressive 17th place finish at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship on Nov. 16, in which she qualified for nationals for the second straight year. At nationals, Stinson earned Utica’s best individual finish in program history.
On Oct. 5, Stinson ran a season-best time of 22:53.1 over 6,000-meters at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University. A four-time 2019 Empire 8 Runner of the Week, Stinson was also runner-up at the Empire 8 Championship on Nov. 2 and won the SUNY Poly Wildcat Classic Invitational on Sept. 21. Stinson wraps up her tremendous career at Utica as a three-time Empire 8 Runner of the Year and four-time All-Empire 8 first team selection.
Stinson is also a four-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III All-Academic recipient.
