Nazareth College women’s swimming and diving standouts Taylor Robey and Taylor Woltz along with Hartwick men’s swimming and diving senior Yury Chernyak were named to the 2019-20 Scholar All-American Team by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for their work in the classroom.
The CSCAA named 1,479 swimmers and divers to Scholar All-American Team for the 2019-20 season. The award recognizes students who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and were invited to compete at their respective national championship. Selections were drawn from 209 colleges and universities.
In addition to 209 teams receiving first-team selections, 97 programs placed one swimmer or diver selected on the All-America Second Team roster. These student-athletes have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at an NCAA Regional or Zone Diving qualifier. In total, 282 teams placed at least one individual on the First or Second teams.
Robey, the 2019-20 Empire 8 Women’s Swimmer of the Year, earned Scholar All-American accolades. A music education major, Robey earned her second consecutive Empire 8 Swimmer of the Year honor and was a CSCAA All-American during her junior season in 2019-20. She recorded the 11th fastest time in Division III in the 50-yard freestyle of 23.43 seconds and was set to compete at the 2020 NCAA Division III Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle events. Robey, who was also named the 2018 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, won both the 50-yard (23.43 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (51.78 seconds) events and was part of the victorious 200-yard freestyle (1:36.07), 400-yard freestyle (3:32.24) and 200-yard medley relay (1:47.05) teams at the 2020 Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championships.
Woltz, a junior, garnered Honorable Mention Scholar All-American plaudits. A nursing major, Woltz was runner-up in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events at the 2019-20 Allegheny Empire Conference Championship. She was also ninth at the NCAA Region 4 Diving Championships in the 1-meter event. Woltz recorded a season-best score of 429.60 in the 1-meter event at the Allegheny Empire Championships.
Chernyak earned Honorable Mention Scholar All-American honors. He won individual titles in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events, earning Empire 8 First Team honors at the Allegheny Empire Conference Championship in February. He swam to an NCAA "B" cut time in the 200-yard breaststroke and finished the competition with a total of 115 points. Chernyak secured 28 victories in dual meets this past season and capped his final campaign as a Hawk with 426 points. A mathematics and physics double major, Chernyak was tapped the Hartwick College Roy Chipman Memorial Award winner for Male Athlete of the Year in May.
