The Halifax Thunderbirds of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) re-signed Elmira College men's lacrosse alumnus Scott Campbell '04 to a one-year extension for the upcoming 2021 season.

An assistant captain during the franchise's inaugural campaign in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Campbell returns to the Thunderbirds for his 17th season of professional box lacrosse. In the 2004 NLL Entry Draft, the Markham, Ontario, native was chosen with the 10th overall selection in the second round. Since then, he's played in 229 regular-season and another 22 postseason games, most of which came in Rochester with the Knighthawks before the franchise relocated to Halifax last offseason.

With the former Rochester Knighthawks, Campbell was a cornerstone of a defensive unit that led the team to three consecutive NLL championships from 2012-14. He's logged 54 goals and 84 assists for 138 career points with over 1,000 loose balls in regular-season competition. During the coronavirus-shortened 2020 season, "Soupy" was tied for 14th on the league's defense and transition scoring leaderboard and reached 90 loose balls for the third time as a pro.

In three seasons as a member of the EC men's lacrosse team from 2002-04, Campbell recorded 65 points on 47 goals and 18 assists, in addition to picking up 56 ground balls in 33 games. A dual-sport student-athlete, he also earned three varsity letters with the men's ice hockey team and helped the Soaring Eagles to the 2003 ECAC West Championship and berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
