Eight Teams to Vie for 2021 Empire 8 Women’s Cross Country Championship on October 30

The 2021 Empire 8 Women’s Cross Country Championship will take place at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 30 at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Greenwich, NY, hosted by Russell Sage College. Eight Empire 8 institutions will vie for the team title in the 6,000-meter event. St. John Fisher will look to win its second league title in just over six months. Live results through Leone Timing will be available for the meet.
 
St. John Fisher rolled to the Spring Empire 8 2021 Championship and return four of the top five finishers from that event, five All-Empire 8 first team and two second team selections. Junior Riley Corey won the 2021 Empire 8 Championship race by nearly 34 seconds and will look to repeat this weekend. She is a four-time Empire 8 Runner of the Week this season and won the individual title at the Highlander Invitational on Oct. 9.  Senior Morgan Gould placed second last spring, while sophomores Lauren DeMichele and Laura Witt were fourth and fifth respectively. Chelsea Lamphere also returns as an All-Empire 8 first team selection, while senior Alivia Collins is a two-time All-E8 second team pick. Taylor Highers, Abigail Perry and Marinna Raequeno have also contributed to the Cardinals success this season.
 
Nazareth has six Spring 2021 all-conference runners competing this weekend in junior Emily Weaver (first team), sophomore Lilianna Hanning (first team), sophomore Paige Ackley (second team), senior Claire Bargabos (second team) and juniors Megan Morin (second team) and Giselle Rainville (second team) in an effort to improve on last spring’s second-place finish at the Empire 8 Championships. First-year Peyton Tripp will also look to contribute for Nazareth this weekend.
 
The Gators of Russell Sage enjoyed a strong third place finish last spring. Sophomore Mackenzie Feeney was the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year last spring after placing third overall at the league championship, earning first team accolades. Classmate Emma Cronin also earned All-E8 first team honors after placing seventh. First-year runner Elizabeth Ingellis and Crystal Ivery, along with senior Kristin McAlonen will look to excel this weekend for the hosts.
 
Juniors Amanda Burrichter and Rachel Domracki form a strong 1-2 punch for Houghton, as the Highlanders look to earn their second E8 title in three seasons this weekend. Burrichter is a two-time All-Empire 8 first team selection who finished sixth at the 2019 championship and tenth last Spring. Domracki has finished just outside the top-20 in each of her first two seasons but enters the meet having finished third overall at the Highlander Invitational on Oct. 9. First-year standout Tabitha Clark along with Ellie Kettinger, Alexa Binney, Phebe Grant will look to earn all-league accolades.
 
Utica is looking to get back to the top half of the Empire 8 standings this weekend. Sophomore Jade Dening is a two-time Empire 8 Runner of the Week this fall. Senior Kristin Daino will look to earn her third All-Conference honor, along with junior Sarah Sharpe, who placed 21st overall in 2019. Senior Laura Levi, juniors Brieann Lohman and Alyssa Wineberg, sophomore Priya Katwala will look to earn valuable points for the Pioneers.

Alfred will have graduate student Morgan Brothers, senior Sally Johnston, junior Mackenzie Grosskopf and Mari Johnson along with sophomore Sam Arthurs ready to improve on a sixth place finish last spring at the Empire 8 Championships. Jablonski earned a top-15 individual finish at the Highlander Invitational earlier in the month.
 
Hartwick competes at the league championship meet for the first time since 2019. First-year Madilynne Smith has stepped up and consistently led Hartwick throughout the season. Sophomore Sophia Kehr, along with seniors Anne Baskwill, Adrianna Smith and Taylor King are expected to help lead the way this weekend as well. First-year standouts Sophie Ridgway and Jessica Smith can score for Hartwick.
 
Keuka makes its Empire 8 Championship debut this weekend. Sophomore Alison Reigle has emerged as Keuka’s top runner throughout the season. First-year standout Emily Hemstrought, along with graduate students Lauren Tyler and Bayli Fugle and junior Colleen Ulrich have stepped up for the Wolves. Josie Kelley and Hope Van Dunye will also look to earn a spot in Keuka’s top-five this weekend.
