Nazareth College graduate student Lauren Begy and Russell Sage College senior Hallie Klosterman were selected to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Women’s Soccer NCAA Division III District 3 Team, which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Both student-athletes are repeat selections.
The 2021 Academic All-District® Women’s Soccer Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
Begy, a native of Rochester, NY, elected to return to the Golden Flyers for a fifth season after being granted an extra season of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She started regularly in 2021 as a defender and helped limit opponents to less than one goal per game as Nazareth won the Empire 8 Conference title and claimed a berth in the NCAA Tournament. She also scored three goals, including two in a 3-0 win over Keuka on Sept. 25. She earned All-Empire 8 first team honors for the second straight season and was named to the 2021 Empire 8 Women’s Soccer Championship All-Tournament Team.
In the classroom, Begy is a Physical Therapy major with a 3.91 grade-point average.
The accolade is the latest in a longlist of accomplishments for Klosterman, a native of Modena, NY, who also made the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Team. She was also selected for the 2020-2021 United Soccer Coaches Player of Distinction NCAA Division III Team, as well as the 2020-2021 USC NCAA Division III Women Scholar All-East Region Team. The RSC Athletic Honors Society member, who has recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA, has made the Empire 8 President's List and Dean's List every year.
Klosterman led the Gators to the 2020-21 Empire 8 Women's Soccer Tournament Championship. She scored both goals in the title game vs. Utica, including the overtime winner on a penalty kick, and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. The co-captain currently is 16th in program records for career points (43), and career goals (16). This season, Klosterman tallied 11 points on five goals and an assist for the Gators.
Off the pitch, Klosterman, the 2021 Grand Collegiate Women of the Year by Capital District Sports Women of the Year, is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at Russell Sage. The group's community service initiatives include volunteering at a food pantry, running a pop tab fundraiser for donations, and collecting bottles and cans to raise funds for local charities.
The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
