The Empire 8 is saddened to announce that Utica College men's lacrosse head coach Mike Parnell passed away on Dec. 2.
Parnell was a founding member of the Utica lacrosse program as a player, graduating in 2002 and led the program as head coach for the past 14 years. He previously served as assistant coach for two seasons, and has also coached at Colgate and Brown.
On and off the field, he coached with incredible energy and passion, which earned him the praise of generations of Utica student-athletes. He won 98 games at Utica and guided 48 All-Empire 8 selections during his tenure with the Pioneers. As a player, Parnell holds the school for most goals (8) and points in a game (10).
The Empire 8 sends its deepest condolences to Mike's wife, family and friends in addition to his past and present student-athletes, the Utica College Athletics Department and Utica College community.
