2021 Empire 8 Spring Women's Cross Country Championship to Take Place Friday at Houghton

The 2021 Empire 8 Spring Women’s Cross Country Championship will take place at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, April 9 at Field of Dreams Course on the campus of Houghton College. Six Empire 8 institutions will vie for the team title in the 5,000-meter event, as host Houghton is set to defend its 2019 championship.
 
Sophomore Amanda Burrichter will look to lead Houghton to its second straight league title in 2021. Burrichter, who finished sixth at the 2019 championship, won both the mile and 3,000-meter run at the 2021 Empire 8 Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship on March 19. Classmate Rachel Domracki finished 23rd for the Highlanders at the 2019 E8 Cross Country Championship, while Ellie Kettinger was 44th. Aubrie Cole, Julia Hotchkiss, Leah O’Connell and Emily Strauss will also look to contribute for Houghton, who won the 2019 E8 Championship in dramatic fashion by two points over St. John Fisher
 
St. John Fisher just missed winning the team title at last year’s championship and return sophomore Riley Corey, the 2019 Empire 8 Cross Country Rookie of the Year, who finished third overall in the championship event. Corey earned first place at the Terry Rodenbeck Invitational on March 26 and was also the 2021 Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Champion in the 5,000-meter run. Classmate Morgan Gould was runner-up to Corey in the 5,000-meters at the 2021 E8 Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship and earned All-E8 Second Team honors at the 2019 Cross Country Championship, placing 13th overall. Sophomore Grace Cummings and junior Alivia Collins placed 14th and 16th overall respectively and both earned All-E8 Second Team honors in 2019 as well.
 
Hayley Cronin, the 2018 Empire 8 Champion and Rookie of the Year, along with fellow juniors Erin Reyner and Claire Baragbos are also set to lead Nazareth at the 2021 spring championship. The Golden Flyers, who finished third as a team last season, will look to contend for the E8 title. Sophomores Megan Morin and Emily Weaver along with first-year standout Lilianna Hanning were among the top finishers in the 5,000-meters at the 2021 E8 Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 19 and are also expected earn top finishes for the Golden Flyers.
 
Utica, the 2018 Empire 8 Champions, placed fourth overall in 2019 and return All-Empire 8 Second Team selection Kristin Daino, along with sophomore Sarah Sharpe, who placed 21st overall in 2019. Senior Elizabeth Darling, junior Sara Michelsen and sophomores Laura Levi and Alyssa Wineberg, along with first-year competitors Erin Bruttomesso, Priya Katwala and Brooke Wilson will look to emerge as top finishers.
 
Sage enjoyed a solid fifth place finish in 2019 and will look to run to even greater success in 2021. Junior Kristin McAlonen is back after earning All-Empire 8 Second Team accolades in 2019, placing 18th overall. Sophomore Evelyn Gile, senior Sophia Keravich, junior Giannah French, sophomore Molly Kane and freshmen Emma Cronin, along with Mackenzie Feeney will be counted on to contribute as well.
 
Alfred will look to improve after an eighth place finish in 2019. Sam Arthurs, Morgan Brothers, Mackenzie Grosskopf, Mari Jablonski, Sally Johnson and Holly Passetti will look to earn valuable points for the Saxons.
