St. John Fisher Wins 2022 Empire 8 Women's Cross Country Championship for Third Straight Season

Houghton's Amanda Burrichter wins individual title

HOUGHTON, NY – St. John Fisher University won its third consecutive league title, as the Cardinals emerged victorious at the 2022 Empire 8 Women’s Cross Country Championship from Field of Dreams Park on the campus of Houghton University on Saturday, October 29. Houghton senior Amanda Burrichter won her first individual title, finishing two seconds ahead of the field over the 6,000-meter course in a time of 22:55.1.
 
The Cardinals had three of the top six finishers to win a very competitive team title with a score of 44 points, Nazareth College finished second with 55 points and Houghton placed third, right behind with 59 points. Utica University placed fourth with 118 points.
 
Burrichter emerged from a bunched up lead pack of six runners over the final 2,000-meters to earn the individual victory by just over seconds over Lilianna Hanning of Nazareth. Two-time individual defending champion Riley Corey was third overall in a time of 23:11.8, while teammate Lauren DeMichele of St. John Fisher. was fourth, in 23:23.0. Emily Weaver of Nazareth finished fifth in 23:33.4
 
St. John Fisher junior Laura Witt and Russell Sage College sophomore Elizabeth Ingellis rounded out the top-seven to garner All-Empire 8 first team accolades.

The All-Conference selections will be announced on Nov. 10-11, Runners who finished first through seventh will be All-E8 first team selections, while runners who finished 8-14 are second team selections and the 15th-21st place finishers will be third team selections.

Runners will be action on November 12 at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships from Genesee Valley Park in Rochester.
