ELMIRA, NY – The Elmira College Women's Basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating the visiting Express from Wells College 114-19 inside Speidel Gymnasium. For the Soaring Eagles, it was the most points scored in a contest in program history, while its 62 first half points and 72 rebounds were also the most in a game for its 48-year program history.
Even distribution across the board saw 16 Elmira players score, while McKenzie Simmons '26 paved the way with 14 points, three rebounds, and a pair of steals. Desiree Roy '25 and Alleney Klunk '24 were the only others to score in double figures, with each posting ten points apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagle would begin the contest on a 15-0 run over the first 6:06 before the Express were able to score its first point on a made free throw from Morgan Adams. The run was sparked with six points from Roy in the early-going. The quarter would conclude with Adams converting on another pair of free throws and a basket for Wells, while EC used a 15-4 run over the final minutes to take a 30-6 lead into the second. In the frame, EC was able to outscore the visitors 19-0 on points from turnovers, forcing 12 in the opening period.
The second period saw the Soaring Eagles outscore Wells 32-6 while shooting a game-best 57.14% from the floor (12-of-21). Strong play on both sides of the ball, including 11 Wells turnovers propelled the home squad to a 62-12 lead at the break. Its 62 points scored in the half marked the most by a Soaring Eagles' team in program history.
The second half saw the Soaring Eagles outscore the Express 52-7. After a 29-7 advantage in the third quarter, the Purple & Gold held the visitors off the board in the fourth, scoring 23 points of its own.
The Express would finish the contest posting 38 turnovers compared to just 13 for Elmira, with the home team converting on 11 shots from beyond the arc while holding Wells scoreless from three.
