Houghton University senior Amanda Burrichter was named Runner of the Year and teammate Noelle Linenfelser earned Rookie of the Year accolades, as the Empire 8 announced its 2022 Women’s Cross Country award winners on Monday, Nov. 21. The individual awards are voted on by the league's head coaches.
The St. John Fisher College coaching staff, led by head coach Mike Henchen, was named E8 Coaching Staff of the Year for the third straight season.
Burrichter, a native of Fillmore, NY, won the individual title at the 2022 Empire 8 Championship on her home course by just over two seconds in a time of 22:55.1 over the 6,000-meter distance on Oct. 29. That was the second best time in her collegiate career over that distance. In addition, she joined a select group of student-athletes to earn All-Empire 8 first team honors for the fourth time. Burrichter, who garnered three top-10 finishes this season, was a three-time Empire 8 Runner of the Week in 2022.
Linenfelser, a native of Grand Island, NY, enjoyed a tremendous first season for the Highlanders in 2022. She finished ninth overall at the Empire 8 Championship on Oct. 29 in a time of 24:07.5 over 6,000-meters to garner All-E8 second team accolades. She was also the top first-year finisher among all Empire 8 runners at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship hosted by the University of Rochester on Nov. 12, placing 60th overall. Linenfelser recorded a season-best time of 23:57.2 over 6,000-meters at the Lock Haven Invitational on Sept. 24.
The St. John Fisher coaching staff, led by head coach Mike Henchen was honored as the 2022 Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year. Henchen led St. John Fisher to its third consecutive Empire 8 Championship on Oct. 29. In addition, he mentored five all-league selections, including All-E8 first team selections Riley Corey, Lauren DeMichele and Laura Witt.
The
Empire 8 first, second and third team all-conference selections were determined at the championship meet on Oct. 29 at Field of Dreams Park, hosted by Houghton. Those selections were previously announced on Nov. 10.
One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2022 Women's Cross Country Sportswoman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
