Alfred State Men and Nazareth Women Lead After Day One of 2022 Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championships

WEBSTER, NY – The Alfred State College men and Nazareth College women lead after day one of the 2022 Allegheny Empire 8 Swimming and Diving Championship, held at the Webster Aquatic Center on Wednesday, February 16.
 
The Pioneers of Alfred State lead the men’s championship with 150 points, just ahead of 2020 champion Nazareth College, who has 139 points after Wednesday. Hartwick College (122), Alfred University (114) and Penn State Behrend (112) round out the top five.
 
Alfred State’s 200-yard medley relay team of Westin Perry, Stuart Yates, Jazz Widney, Luca Alderwald opened the meet with a win by nearly two seconds in a time of 1:32.10. In addition, Austin Miller won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 420.50. The Pioneers also finished second overall in the 800-yard freestyle relay, just behind Penn State Behrend’s winning team of Jake Eshelman, Jake Schmidt, Tim Compton, Matt Karenbauer, Penn State Behrend, who cruised to a nearly two-second advantage in 6:56.10.
 
Defending champion Nazareth leads the women after two events with 134 points, 18 ahead of second place Penn State Behrend. Alfred State (108) is third, while Alfred and Hartwick are both tied for fifth with 86 points.
 
Nazareth’s 200-yard medley relay team of Rebecca Skelley, Abbie Santos, Paige Pasquarella, Taylor Robey cruised to a nearly five-second advantage in a time of 1:47.67. Hartwick’s 800-yard freestyle relay team of Bree Dy, Ellie Baird, Joelle Ocheltree, Abby Miller finished nearly three seconds up on Nazareth, hitting the wall in 7:58.99.
