WEBSTER, NY – Nazareth College continues to maintain a slim lead over Alfred University after day two of the 2022 Empire 8 Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held in conjunction with the Allegheny Empire Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center on Thursday, February 17.
The Golden Flyers have 361 team points to hold a 53.5 point lead over Alfred University, who has 307.5 points after Thursday night and Hartwick College, who has 256. Utica College is fourth overall with 65.5 points.
Cameron Fairley of Nazareth opened the weekend by winning the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:47.79. Mikey Schultz of Hartwick annexed the hotly contested 200-yard individual medley in a time of 1:56.07, while teammate Diallo Marshall won his second consecutive E8 title in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.97 seconds. Nazareth’s quartet of Tom Griffin, Joey Knapp, Sean Payrot and and Ryan Hough won the E8 title in the 200-yard freestyle relay by just over one second in 1:25.33.
Day three action begins with the prelims at 10 am on Friday. Day three finals events begin at 5 pm.
