WEBSTER, NY – Nazareth College leads after day three of the 2022 Empire 8 Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held in conjunction with the Allegheny Empire Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center on Friday, February 18.
The Golden Flyers have 651 team points to hold a 70-point lead over Alfred University, who has 581 points after Friday night and Hartwick College, who has 515. Utica College is fourth overall with 115.5 points.
Marco Salvatore of Nazareth opened the evening by winning the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:47.79. Colby Watkins of Alfred earned the victory in the 100-fly with a time of 51.27 seconds, while Dawson Tupponce took the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.08.
Nazareth’s Tom Griffin repeated as 100-yard backstroke winner in a time of 52.31 seconds, while Wade Lamastus of Alfred broke one-minute in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.45 seconds.
The team of Mikey Schultz, Colin Leonard, Tupponce and Diallo Marshall took the 400-yard medley relay in a close race with a time of 3:32.57.
Jake Smith of Nazareth won his second diving title of the weekend, this time taking the 1-meter event with a score of 386.15.
Day four action begins with the prelims at 10 am on Saturday. Action concludes with the finals events at 5 pm.
