WEBSTER, NY – Nazareth College won its second straight team title as the 2022 Empire 8 Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held in conjunction with the Allegheny Empire Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center came to a close on Saturday, February 19.
The Golden Flyers finished with 941 team points to hold off Alfred University by 62 points, while Hartwick College recorded 808 points. Utica University finished overall with 180 points.
Kai D’Alessandro of Nazareth opened the evening by winning the 1,650-freestyle in a time of 16:45.80. Teammate Ryan Hough took the 100-yard freestyle in a snappy time of 46.21 seconds. Phil Volaski of Alfred earned the victory in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.51 seconds, while teammate Emiliano Terrazas won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:06.50.
Hartwick’s Mikey Schultz, who was named the 2022 Empire 8 Swimmer of the Meet, took the 200-yard butterfly in 1:51.76. Schultz was also part of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team, along with Dawson Tupponce, Diallo Marshall and Reid Sinkinson that hit the wall first in 3:09.36.
Nazareth’s Jake Smith was named the Empire 8 Diver of the Meet after earning league titles in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events earlier in the week.
