Five Empire 8 Standouts Earn 2022 IWLCA All-Region Team Accolades

Five student-athletes from three Empire 8 institutions were named to the 2022 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Empire Region Team. Three players earned first team honors, while two were named to the second team. St. John Fisher College and Nazareth College led all E8 members with two selections each, while one Utica University student-athlete was honored.
 
Both the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year, Sydney Carpenter of St. John Fisher and Defensive Player of the Year, Emma Parry of Nazareth were first team selections. Alexandra Strollo of St. John Fisher was also a first team pick. Nazareth’s Emma States and Utica goalkeeper Claire Frier, the 2022 Empire 8 Goalkeeper of the Year were second team selections. All five student-athletes previously earned 2022 All-Empire 8 first team accolades.

A total of 272 student-athletes were selected in the eight regions for 2021. These student-athletes are now eligible to be named to the national IWLCA All-American team that will be released on May 26.
 
Carpenter enjoyed an incredible debut season for the Empire 8 Champion Cardinals, recording 66 points on 36 goals and 30 assists to go along with 119 draw controls and 36 ground balls in 18 games on her way to becoming the first player in league history to earn Empire 8 Women’s Lacrosse Player and Rookie of the Year honors in the same season. A native of Hilton, NY, Carpenter was also named the 2022 Empire 8 Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Cardinals to their tenth straight league title.
 
An All-Empire 8 first team selection earlier this month, Strollo, a native of Big Flats, NY, turned in a breakout senior campaign that saw her lead the Cardinals with 31 caused turnovers while her 37 ground balls and 73 draw controls were second overall on the roster. After making her first collegiate start in the season-opener, Strollo headlined a defensive unit that allowed the fewest goals in the conference after yielding just eight goals per game over 19 contests. She was also named to the 2022 Empire 8 Women’s Lacrosse Championship All-Tournament Team.

Frier, the 2022 E8 Goalkeeper of the Year, finished with a 9-5 record, 10.68 goals against average and a .430 save percentage in 2022 for Utica. A native of LaFayette, NY, Frier has won 21 games in her career with 225 saves, a 9.40 goals against average and a .454 save percentage.

Parry a senior from Camillus, N.Y., earned All-Region accolades for the second straight season. She became the second straight Golden Flyer standout to earn Defensive Player of the Year accolades. She appeared in all 18 games for the Golden Flyers in 2022, finishing with 95 draw controls and league best totals of 55 ground balls and 45 caused turnovers.

States, of Phoenix, N.Y., garnered her second straight All-Region accolade in 2022. led the Golden Flyers in scoring with 72 points on 51 goals and 21 assists. The junior attack also was second on the team with 20 caused turnovers She has amassed 107 goals in her first three seasons.
