HOUGHTON, NY— After nearly a month away from the hardwood, the Houghton Highlanders avenged last month's loss to the Alfred Saxons, picking up their ninth win of the season, 65-54.

Led by a career-high 18 points from Hannah Roeske, the Highlanders outscored the Saxons by at least four points in each of the final three quarters to separate down the stretch.

Alfred tied the game, 37-37, with 2:45 to play in the third quarter, but Houghton reeled off a 7-0 run to cap the period.

The Saxons again trimmed the lead to only two points midway through the final quarter, but Houghton again rallied, eventually building their lead to double-digits.

COACH'S CORNER
"What a fun win against a very talented opponent.  When you play together, and are confident in the person standing next to you, great things happen.

"[Our team] came back from the [Christmas] break and strung together some of the most competitive practices that I've seen in my time here.  You can see how much the group loves each other and wants to get better every single game.

"The major difference from the first time we matched up with Alfred was our intensity and composure.

"Tomorrow is a new day and we need to keep getting better and prepare for one of the better teams in the nation.  I'm excited to keep growing with this group." – Head Coach Phil Pellegrino
