2023 Empire 8 Women’s Cross Country Championship Set to Commence Saturday, October 28

Race begins at noon from Parkview Fairways in Victor, NY; St. John Fisher will look to win its fourth straight E8 title

The 2023 Empire 8 Women’s Cross Country Championship will take place at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 28 at Parkview Fairways in Victor, NY, hosted by Nazareth University. Eight teams will vie for the team title in the 6,000-meter event. St. John Fisher University will look to earn its fourth consecutive Empire 8 Championship. The event will be streamed on the Empire 8 Network and live results will be able from www.leonetiming.com.
 
St. John Fisher University will look to make it four straight E8 titles on Saturday. The Cardinals return four of its the top five finishers from last season, including a pair of All-Empire 8 first team selections, one second team and one third team honoree. Senior Lauren DeMichele, a three-time All-E8 first team selection, will be expected to lead the Cardinals and will look for her first E8 Individual title in 2023. Fellow first team member, senior Laura Witt, senior second team member Brigid McGee and sophomore third team member Olivia Grinnell are key returners who will look to help the Cardinals attempt to win their fourth straight E8 crown. DeMichele and Witt were also All-Region selections in 2022. Riley Jameson, Allison List and Lauren Dunn will also compete for points this weekend. The Cardinals enter the 2023 E8 Championship ranked tenth in the USTFCCCA Niagara Region rankings.
 
The Golden Flyers of Nazareth University have four all-conference runners returning Senior Lilianna Hanning finished second overall in the 2022 championship and garnered All-Region accolades. She is a two-time All-Empire 8 first team selection and will look for her fourth all-league accolade in 2023. Graduate student Emily Weaver joined Hanning on the first team last season after recording an impressive fifth place finish at the league championship , while sophomore Ella Impaglia and senior Paige Ackley were both All-Empire 8 third team selections. Weaver has enjoyed an excellent season to date with three top-10 finishes and three E8 Runner of the Week accolades. The Golden Flyers enter the 2023 E8 Championship ranked seventh in the USTFCCCA Niagara Region rankings.
 
Sophomore Noelle Linenfelser, the 2022 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, will look to lead Houghton University to its second league title in 2023. Linenfelser finished ninth overall at the league championship to earn All-Empire 8 second team honors. She is off to a great start in 2023, having earned a pair of E8 Runner of the Week honor, including the most recent accolade on Oct. 23. First-year Aria Larson has excelled for Houghton thus far in 2023. Junior Kennedy McCoy earned All-E8 third team nod in 2022 along with junior Tabitha Clark, who earned third team honors in 2021. In addition, first year Miranda Lyon will look to earn valuable points for Houghton.
 
Utica University returns six of its top seven runners from last season after earning fourth place honors. Junior Jade Dening. Dening earned All-Empire 8 second team honors in 2022 and in 2021, was the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, while recording first team all-league honors and All-Region plaudits. Earlier this season, she placed second at the SUNY Poly Wildcat Classic. Sophomore Gianna Welker, an All-E8 second team pick, and sophomore Kyla Reed have also excelled throughout the season. First-year Maria Stuhlman earned E8 Runner of the Week accolades on Oct. 2.
 
Alfred returns four of its top six runners from 2022 and will look to improve off last season’s fifth place finish at the Empire 8 Championship. Junior McKenzie Hall, an All-Empire 8 second team selection, will lead the way for the Saxons. Senior Mari Jablonski, a two-time All-E8 selection, will be a key leader, along with senior Sarah Lutkins. Adia Tompkins is off to a strong start in her debut season for the Saxons in 2023.
 
The Gators of Russell Sage College will look to get back into the top half of the E8 standings in 2023. Junior Elizabeth Ingellis earned All-Empire 8 first team accolades last season after finishing seventh overall. She is a two-time E8 Runner of the Week in 2023. Senior Mackenzie Feeney was the Spring 2021 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and is attempting to earn her fourth All-E8 honor in 2023. Charisma Losee will also look to earn valuable points for the Gators this weekend.
 
The Hawks of Hartwick College return five student-athletes from last season’s team and will look to improve its seventh-place finish from 2022. Sophomore Brynita Haas is expected to lead the way for Hartwick in 2023 along with juniors Madilynne Smith and Sophie Ridgway. Haas was Hartwick’s top finisher at the 2022 Empire 8 Championship, placing 29th overall, while Smith was 41st.
 
Keuka College will look to make strides in its third Empire 8 season. Senior Alison Reigle is back after placing 42nd overall last year and 29th at the 2021 E8 Championship. Chloe Barnard, Laura Barrett, Yixuan Wu and Alexia Salerno are also expected to contend for Keuka.
