Nazareth College junior Lilianna Hanning, St. John Fisher College seniors Riley Corey and Lauren DeMichele, along with junior Laura Witt earned 2022 NCAA Division III All-Academic Individual honors, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Overall, there were 387 women from 137 different institutions who were named All-Academic Individuals in NCAA Division III during the 2021 season. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
Hanning, a biomedical sciences major, earned All-Empire 8 first team honors in 2022 after finishing as the runner-up at the league championship meet in a personal best time of 22:57.7 over the 6,000-meter course at Houghton's Field of Dreams Park. A native of Rochester, NY, Hanning excelled at the NCAA Division III Niagara Region Cross Country Championship, placing 21st overall to earn All-Region accolades.
Corey, a native of Waterloo, NY, finished third at the 2022 Empire 8 Cross Country Championship to earn her fourth straight All-E8 honor. She also placed 23rd at the Division III Niagara Region Cross Country Championship to earn All-Region accolades. A nursing major, Corey is a two-time Empire 8 Runner of the Year and also represented the Empire 8 at the 2021 NCAA Division III Women’s Cross Country Championship, earning a top-100 finish.
DeMichele, a biology major who hails from Horseheads, NY, garnered All-Empire 8 first team honors for the third consecutive season in 2022 after finishing fourth at the league championship meet in a time of 23:23.0 over the 6,000-meter course at Houghton. She also earned All-Atlantic Region honors after placing 29th overall at the regional championship.
Witt, a native of Webster NY, won the Empire 8 Women's Cross Country Torchbearer Award for academic excellence for the second straight year. The pharmacy major finished sixth overall at the Empire 8 Championship on Oct. 29 in a career-best time of 23:42.1 over 6,000-meters to earn All-E8 first team accolades. She was also an All-Region selection two weeks later, placing 30th overall.
