Mason Scores Five To Lead St. John Fisher To Victory Over Alfred

ALFRED, NY - The St. John Fisher University men's lacrosse team earned an 18-9  victory over Alfred University on Wednesday afternoon. Fisher now holds a 4-8 overall record and are 4-0 in conference play. The Saxons fall to 7-4 on the season and are 3-1 in conference play.

As the first quarter began with Logan Grom and a first face-off win, he took it hard to cage and put the Cardinals on the board just 15 seconds in. The Saxon's answer back at 13:02 to tie it up at one a piece. Alfred with a long offensive possession finds the back of the net to go up 2-1. Brady Mason gets his first of the day to tie it up at 2-2. Heading into the second, the Saxon's lead 3-2.

The Saxons getting a quick start to the second, they go up 4-2. At the 11:22 minute mark, Timmy Salit finds Mason to cut the deficit to 4-3. Ben Hammond with a big save on the defensive end, leads to Lane Edinger with the tying goal, assisted by Matt Slowinski on the offensive end, 8:15 to go until half. Edinger finds to back of the net once again just 45 seconds later to give Fisher a 5-4 lead. The Cardinals going on a bit of a scoring run, tally the next four straight goals. Next is Mason with a first half hat trick to bring the Cardinals up 6-4. Edinger with his third of the game, and a hat trick on the day to make it 7-4. Finishing out the second quarter scoring is Samuel Miller, Salit and Mason to bring the score to 10-5, Cardinals lead at half.

Mason gets his fifth of the night to start out the second half, 11-5 Cardinals lead. The Saxon's get the next two goals, making it 11-7 with 3:32 remaining in the third. Matthew Kemmis gets on the board, assisted by Edinger to end the Saxon's two goal run. Matt Slowinski puts it away with 17 seconds left in the third to bring the Cardinals into the Fourth leading 13-7. Dugan Doeblin picks up the ground balls off the face off and takes it hard to cage, getting his first of the game just four seconds into the fourth quarter, Fisher goes up 14-7. Miller finds Kemmis for his second of the day, 15-7, 14:48 remaining in regulation. Alfred tallies two quick goals in an effort to close to deficit, 15-9 Cardinals lead. Three straight goals from Brett Seaman with his first of the night, Slowinski with his second and Colin Blakeslee with his first solidify a Cardinals victory as time runs out. Fisher finishes on top by an 18-9 final score.

Fisher ended the match up with 10 different goal scorers on the board. Mason lead the way with five goals, he tallied three ground balls and one caused turnover. Edinger finished the day with three goals and one assist, with one ground ball. On the defensive end, Brian Jantz recorded three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Up next for the Cardinals, the team will host Hartwick College on Saturday, April 15th. The Empire 8 match up is set for 2 p.m.
