Big Third Quarter Leads Nazareth to 18-14 Victory Over Medaille

BUFFALO, NY – The senior trio of Annie Rubel, Emma States, and Maggie Vay combined for 10 goals to help Nazareth to an 18-14 win over Medaille on Saturday in Empire 8 Conference action. Vay added a season-high four goals, while States and Rubel each poured in three apiece.  Sophomore Grace Seither added a career-high six points off two goals and four assists.
 
Nazareth moves to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in Empire 8 play with the victory, while Medaille drops to 7-3 and 1-2, respectively.
 
With the score tied at 8-8 at halftime, Nazareth used a huge third quarter to open up the game, outscoring the Mavericks 6-1.
 
Vay tallied an extra-man goal early in the third to give the Golden Flyers the lead for good and then added another over five minutes later to push the lead to 10-8.
 
Seither assisted on the next two goals, one from Rubel and the other from Maren Wallace to give the Golden Flyers a four-goal cushion. Wallace finished the game with four points on two goals and two assists.
 
Emily Paddock added an extra-attacker goal capped by Rubel's second of the game to lengthen Nazareth's lead to 14-9 with a quarter to play.
 
Medaille was able to come with 16-13 with nine minutes remaining before Wallace and Mussi added goals :30 second apart.
 
Maggie Gannon led the way with six ground balls.
 
Allie Klestinec started the game in net making four saves and allowing eight goals. Tori Henchen picked up the win, making a save and allowing six goals in 30 minutes of action.

Nazareth returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Keuka for a 7 p.m. contest.
