No. 19 St. John Fisher Rolls to Convincing 14-3 Win over Mount Union in 2023 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament

ALLIANCE, OH - Sydney Carpenter tallied seven points on three goals and four assists, as the No. 19 St. John Fisher University women's lacrosse team (17-2) rolled to its 12th straight win, 14-3 over the University of Mount Union (14-5) in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament from Kehres Stadium.

The Cardinals are in the round of 16 for the second time in the last three seasons. In 2021, St. Fisher made an historic run to the national semifinals. St. John Fisher will take on William Smith next weekend at a time and date to be determined.

While Mount Union opened the scoring, the Cardinals were in control from the outset, scoring the next nine goals and holding the Purple Raiders scoreless for nearly 35 minutes of game time. St. John Fisher held Mount Union to their lowest goal total of the season, as the Purple Raiders entered today having scored at least 10 goals in all 18 of their previous games to date this season.

Carpenter led the way offensively with seven points, factoring in on six of Fisher's first seven goals. She also added a game-high 11 draw controls, giving her 180 in 2023. Mary Fiorentino added four points on two goals and two assists, while Tara Osterdale netted three goals. Kayla Schatz scored twice, while Hanna Kumpf, Cara Landry, Mykenzie Black and Courtney O'Dea also scored.

Defensively, Black and Kaley Griffin forced three turnovers apiece, while Lauren Swartz had four ground balls. In net, Lilly Goodsell made two saves in the win.

The Cardinals out-shot Mount Union, 34-11 and caused 17 turnovers.

St. John Fisher is now 10-12 all-time in NCAA Tournament contests.
