St. John Fisher sophomore midfielder Sydney Carpenter and junior defender Shannon Foster were named to the 2023 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American Teams. Carpenter was a first team selection, while Foster earned second team honors.
A total of 57 student-athletes were selected across the three All-American teams, which represented 29 NCAA Division III institutions.
Carpenter, a sophomore midfielder, was a force all over the field for the Cardinals in 2023, recording 74 points on 43 goals and 31 assists to go along with a program and league record 182 draw controls, 53 ground balls in 18 games on her way to earning her second consecutive IWLCA All-Empire Region First Team accolade. A native of Hilton, NY, Carpenter was also named the 2023 Empire 8 Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season after leading the Cardinals to their 11th straight league title.
Foster, who was previously the 2021 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and 2023 Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year, is the leader of a St. John Fisher defense that will lead all of Division III, allowing just 5.30 goals per game. The Syracuse, NY native has scooped up 43 ground balls and is among the team leaders with 26 caused turnovers.
The duo helped lead St. John Fisher to a 17-3 record in 2023 and its 11th straight Empire 8 Championship. The Cardinals advanced to the third round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
