Empire 8 Newcomers SUNY Brockport and SUNY Geneseo Sweep 2024 Women’s Soccer All-Conference Awards

Empire 8 newcomers SUNY Brockport and SUNY Geneseo swept all five individual awards, as the Empire 8 Conference announced its 2024 Women’s Soccer All-Conference selections on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The awards are voted on by the league's head coaches.
 
Graduate student forward Jaylah Cossin of Brockport was named the 2024 Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year, while teammate Lyndsey Miller, a junior, earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Brockport’s coaching staff, led by head coach Mike Idland was named the Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year. Geneseo senior Mollie Collins earned Empire 8 Goalkeeper of the Year honors, while her teammate Casey Holstein, a first-year midfielder, was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year.
 
Cossin helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 10-1 record in league play, No. 1 seed in the Empire 8 Women’s Soccer Tournament and an at-large selection into the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament. Cossin leads all Empire 8 student-athletes in scoring with 11 goals, eight assists and 30 points this season. Five of her 11 goals were game-winning tallies. She was tremendous in E8 league play, recording 19 points on six goals and seven assists in 11 conference games.
 
Miller led a stout Brockport defense that allowed just four goals over its first 18 contests this season, as the Golden Eagles have earned their first NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament appearance since 2006. The Golden Eagles did not allow a goal over their first 11 games of the season and recorded 15 clean sheets. She has also chipped in offensively with seven points on three goals and an assist.
 
Collins has enjoyed a tremendous season in net for Empire 8 Champion Geneseo, recording an .857 save percentage with six solo shutouts and two combined clean sheets in 15 games. She was even better in league play, allowing just three goals in eight games with five shutouts and an .875 save percentage, while finishing 6-0-2.
 
Holstein helped lead Geneseo to the 2024 Empire 8 Championship and an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament after recording four goals, five assists and 13points in 2024. She had 12 points on four goals and four assists in 10 E8 regular season contests.  
 
Idland led the Golden Eagles to the E8 regular season title, while earning the top seed in the league tournament and an at-large berth into the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Brockport went 10-1-0 in Empire 8 regular season play and enter the NCAA Tourney 15-1-2 overall, allowing just four goals on the season. Brockport has out-scored teams 51-4 this season and has 15 shutouts in 18 games. In addition, a league-high 10 Golden Eagles student-athletes earned 2024 All-E8 honors.
 
The top four teams in the E8 regular season standings swept all 13 E8 first team accolades. Geneseo and St. John Fisher University both had a league-high four first team members, while three Brockport a pair of Nazareth University student-athletes were honored. Overall, Brockport had a league-high 10 student-athletes earn All-E8 honors. Junior Tatum Overton of Nazareth garnered All-E8 first team accolades for the third straight season.
 
One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2024 E8 Women's Soccer Sportswoman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
