The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2024 Empire 8 Field Hockey Championship All-Tournament Team on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Junior midfielder Sam Lewis of SUNY Geneseo was named the Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player after scoring two goals and adding two assists in two games to lead Geneseo to its first league title in its inaugural season as an E8 member.
On Thursday, Lewis assisted on Hailey Roethel’s second quarter goal and added a key insurance goal on a penalty corner late in regulation, leading top seeded Geneseo to a 2-0 win over No. 5 St. John Fisher University on Thursday in the Empire 8 Semifinal contest. In Sunday’s E8 Championship game against No. 3 Hartwick College, Lewis assisted on Ada Roe’s goal midway through the second quarter and then scored her 10th goal of the season just 1:17 into the third quarter to lift the Knights to a 4-0 victory and automatic berth into the 2024 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship Tournament.
Lewis was one of four Geneseo student-athletes to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
