Morrisville wraps up regular season with win over Hartwick, 31-14

MORRISVILLE, NY – Host SUNY Morrisville football concluded the regular season schedule Saturday with a 31-14 win over visiting Hartwick College, wrapping up their Empire 8 schedule with a 5-2 league record.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville football picked up a 31-14 Empire 8 win Saturday afternoon over visiting Hartwick College, wrapping up the regular season schedule with a 5-2 Empire 8 slate.
  • Morrisville limited Hartwick to offensive yards gained through the passing game only, recording their first game with zero rushing net yards allowed as they racked up 247 of their own on the ground.
  • Christopher Stancarone (Levittown, N.Y.) led all ball carriers with 107 net yards on 12 attempts, scoring three rushing touchdowns, while contributing another 157 yards through the air in the passing game towards the Mustangs 404 yards total offense.
  • Stancarone completed 13-of-23 passes on the day, five to senior tight end Quamel Jarvis (Rochester, N.Y.) who registered a team high 70 yards.
  • Sean Perrin (Wallkill, N.Y.) added 76 net yards to the Mustangs gains on the ground with 64 coming from Isaac Sylvain (Schenectady, N.Y.) on 12 carries.
  • Senior Joe Chirurgi (Yonkers, N.Y.) pulled in three catches for 47 yards with fellow senior Connor Marriott (Waterville, N.Y.) adding 25 yards on his three receptions.
  • Senior Aidan McDonald (Rochester, N.Y.) had one catch for 12 yards.
  • Eric Sparkman (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the Mustangs defense with 13 total stops, eight solo, while senior Omar Jarvis (Rochester, N.Y.) had 11 to go along with his interception in the end zone.
  • Senior Evan Salvaggio (Geneseo, N.Y.) posted 10, including 2.5 tackles for a loss of nine yards.
  • Jacob Fritz (North Syracuse, N.Y.) celebrated senior day with seven total stops, including one for a loss of three yards and a broken up pass.
  • Braden Moreau competed 33-of-45 passes for Hartwick for 319 yards and two touchdown scores, throwing one interception in the loss.
  • Conor Cosgrove was Moreau's top target on the day, collecting 157 yards on 13 total receptions.
  • Nicholas Massaregli added another 72 on 10 catches for a touchdown score, while Haven Marascio added 62 yards on four receptions.
  • Jules Pierre led the defensive efforts for the Hawks with nine stops, while Randall Dennis and Joshua Titus each had seven.
  • Morrisville set the tone early, scoring on the first drive of the contest for the early 7-0 lead.
  • Stancarone scampered around right behind his offensive line to cap off the four-play, 54 yard drive with a 10-yard rushing score.
  • Morrisville extended the lead to 24-7 at the half with a dominating second quarter that saw two additional touchdowns and a field goal for senior Owen Cole.
  • Stancarone collected his second rushing score of the day with a block on the left to compete the 20-yard drive in two plays with the 20-yard score at 11:41 of the second.
  • With just under four minutes to go in the second, Sylvain put another on the board for the hosts with his one yard pound behind center at the 3:56 mark.
  • Hartwick completed a 75-yard scoring drive on their ensuing possession with Moreau finding Dempsey in the endzone for the 11-yard passing score, before Cole sent the game into the half with a 24-7 Mustang advantage, nailing the 46-yard field goal with 16 seconds remaining on the clock.
  • Hartwick was able to get a score back at 8:54 in the third quarter as Moreau connected with Massaregli for the six-yard score, on the 91-yard drive, but that was short lived as Stancarone put the cap on the contest with his third touchdown score, scrambling up center 26-yards into the endzone.
  • Cole went 4-for-4 on the day in extra point kicks.

  • Morrisville will learn if they continue the season with a post-season bid after selection shows take place, concluding the regular slate with a 6-4 overall record and finishing third in E8 standings.
