WEBSTER, NY – The Alfred State College men and Hartwick College women lead after day one of the 2024 Allegheny Empire 8 Swimming and Diving Championship, held at the Webster Aquatic Center on Wednesday, February 14.
The defending champion Pioneers of Alfred State lead the men’s championship with 181 points, just ahead of Hartwick College, who has 163 points after Wednesday. Alfred University (158), Penn State Behrend (114) and Penn State Altoona (98) round out the top five.
Penn State Behrend’s 200-yard medley relay team of Glenn Fowkes, Will Perham, Tim Compton and Anthony Tumino opened the meet with a win by just over a second in a time of 1:32.88.
Alfred State’s Conor Compton shattered the meet record in the 3-meter diving event with a tremendous score of 601.25 to win his second straight title in the event.
Hartwick’s 800-yard freestyle relay team of Bryce Rogers, Nic Tirrell, Cameron Drake and Mikey Schultz rolled to a five second win in a time of 6:59.19.
Hartwick College leads the women after two events with 124 points, two ahead of second place Alfred State College. Nazareth College (116) is third, Penn State Behrend is currently fourth with 112 points and Penn State Altoona is sitting fifth with 94 points.
Hartwick’s 200-yard medley relay team of Bree Dy, Elaine Chen, Amanda Wilbur, Cate Russo cruised to the victory by just over a second in a time of 1:50.22. Nazareth’s 800-yard freestyle relay team of Julie Filipski, Ally Putnam, Ellen Burroughs, Caroline Coleman rolled to a decisive win in a time of 7:54.79, just shy of the meet record.
