Hartwick leads after Thursday's Action at 2024 Empire 8 Men's Swimming and Diving Championships

WEBSTER, NY – Hartwick College continues to maintain a slim lead over Alfred University after day two of the 2024 Empire 8 Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held in conjunction with the Allegheny Empire Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center on Thursday, February 15.
 
The Hawks have 374 team points to hold a 47.5 point lead over Alfred University, who has 327.5 points after Thursday night and Nazareth University, who has 212.
 
Cameron Drake of Hartwick opened the evening by winning the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:40.06.
 
Teammate Mikey Schultz won his third straight Empire 8 title in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 1:53.61, partnering with first-year Hassan Abdelwahed for a 1-2 finish for the Hawks in the event.
 
Ryan Hough of Nazareth won the 50-yard freestyle for the second straight season, with a snappy time of 20.71 seconds.
 
Hough earned his second E8 title of the night and led Nazareth to the 200-yard freestyle relay title, swimming the anchor leg in 20:36 seconds to allow the Golden Flyers to rally and overtake Alfred in a time of 1:26.71.
 
Day three action begins with the prelims at 10 am on Friday. Day three finals events begin at 5 pm.
