WEBSTER, NY – The Hartwick College men and Nazareth College women moved into the lead after day two of the 2022 Allegheny Empire 8 Swimming and Diving Championship, held at the Webster Aquatic Center on Thursday, February 15.
The Hawks of Hartwick lead the men’s championship with 374 points, just ahead of Penn State Behrend, who has 354.5 points after Thursday. Alfred State College (344), Alfred University (327.5) and Penn State Altoona (228) round out the top five.
Tim Compton of Penn State Behrend won his third straight championship in the 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 4:37.40. Hartwick’s Mikey Schultz rolled to a nearly three-second win in the 200-yard individual medley, just 16 one-hundredths of a second shy of the meet record with a time of 1:53.61.
Ryan Hough of Nazareth won the 50-yard freestyle in a Allegheny Empire meet record time of 20.71 seconds.
Penn State Behrend’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Anthony Tumino, Evan Del Signore, Jax Abele and Dan Tanaskovic hit the wall first in a time of 1:38.97.
Defending champion Nazareth leads the women after day two with 493 points, nearly doubling Alfred State, who has 251 points. Penn State Behrend (250), Hartwick (244.5) and Alfred University (217.5) round out the top five.
Hartwick’s Ellie Baird hit the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle for the second time in three seasons, outlasting the field by nearly three seconds in a time of 5:13.10.
Julie Filipski of Nazareth earned her second straight Allegheny Empire title in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:10.26, two seconds ahead of Mikaela Snayczuk of Alfred State. Madison Snayczuk of Alfred State took the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.78 seconds.
Both Madison and Mikaela Snayczuk, Gabriela Leite and Mallory O’Keefe ended the evening by winning the 200-yard freesryle relay in a time of 1:38.97.
Nazareth earned a 1-2 sweep in the 1-meter diving event. Alexa Rizzo emerged victorious for the second time in three seasons with a score of 486.75 to defeat defending champion and teammate Elizabeth Tripp, who had 458.85 points.
