Three Empire 8 women's cross country programs are ranked in the 2024 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason rankings. SUNY Geneseo is ranked No. 4 in the the USTFCCCA Division III Women's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll. Geneseo is also ranked second in the USTFCCCA Niagara Region preseason poll, while Nazareth University is No. 7 and St. John Fisher University is No. 8.
National Coaches’ Polls are presented by AthleticNET. Regional Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams’ strength with current season results (if applicable) in determining a rank-order of squad potential. Only USTFCCCA member programs are eligible to receive a ranking. Teams with provisional status within the region may be ranked.
Geneseo won both the SUNYAC and Niagara Region Championships last year and sent a team to nationals for the 23rd straight season. They will be returning their 2023 SUNYAC and Niagara Region Champion Penelope Greene. She finished in third place at the NCAA Championship. The team will also return three top-10 finishers from the regional championship.
Nazareth, the reigning Empire 8 Champions, return with six all-conference runners for the 2024 season. The team will look for back-to-back Empire 8 titles.
St. John Fisher will look to get their league title back after coming in second place at the 2023 Empire 8 Championship. They have a handful of strong returners to rely on for the 2024 season.
The 2024 regular season for all Empire 8 Institutions begins Friday, August 30. The Empire 8 Championship will be held on Saturday November 2 at Houghton University.
