The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2024 Women’s Golf Invitational Award Winners and All-Conference selections, based on results from the Empire 8 Women’s Golf Invitational, which was held at Locust Hill Country Club on Sept. 13. Graduate student Kayla Ringler of Nazareth University was the Empire 8 Invitational Individual Champion, while Alaina Weaver of Utica University was the Rookie of the Meet and head coach Jake Burgio of Empire 8 Invitational Champion Nazareth was the Coach of the Meet.
Ringler won the Empire 8 Invitational Individual Championship by two strokes, carding an 86. Weaver was named Rookie of the Meet after placing tied for fourth overall with a score of 93. She was the top finishing first-year student-athlete.
Burgio helped guide Nazareth to the 2024 E8 Invitational team title by 12 strokes over St. John Fisher to earn Coach of the Meet honors. Nazareth had three All-Conference selections.
Ringler, second place finisher Sarah Burgess of St. John Fisher, fellow Nazareth junior Ava Malvaso, Jillian Draper of SUNY Geneseo and Weaver were the top five finishers, securing All-Empire 8 first team accolades.
One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2024 Women's Golf Sportsman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
