CASTINE, ME – Hartwick scored 62 unanswered points to take down Maine Maritime 62-6 in its season opener on Saturday afternoon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Hawks struggled to find their offensive footing early in the contest, turning the ball over twice and punting the ball away over their first three posessions.
- Maine Maritime capitalized on Hartwick's four-and-out on their third possession marching down the field for a touchdown with 5:13 left on the clock in the 1st quarter.
- Hartwick responded quickly as James Sobol (Old Forge, Pa.) hit Carlito Aldumay (Syracuse, N.Y.) in stride down the left side of the field for a 44-yard touchdown reception.
- The Hawks took complete control of the game in the 2nd quarter sparked by the defense.
- Owen Lawler (Enfield, Conn.) got things started for the Hawks, jumping a route down the left sideline and returning it for a 78-yard pick six.
- Up 14-6, Akil Williams (Chester, N.Y.) punched it into the endzone on a 1-yard rush after the Hawks received the ball on Maine Martime's 5-yard line thanks to a Jules Pierre (West Babylon, N.Y.) 8-yard interception return.
- Hartwick capped off their 21-point 2nd quarter behind another pick-six as Michael Vurchio (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) returned an interception 39 yards for a score.
- The Hawks' offense found their groove in the second half, converting on their first possession of the 3rd quarter.
- Sobol once again found Aldumay for a deep strike, going for 50 yards to give Hartwick a 35-6 lead.
- The Hawks continued to rely on the deep ball as Haven Marascio (Cape Canaveral, Fla.) got in on the action with just 2:29 left in the 3rd quarter with a 57-yard touchdown reception from Sobol.
- After another Vurchio pick early in the 4th quarter, the Hawks handed the reigns of the offense over to Shane Baxter (Hyde Park, N.Y.) who also exploited the Mariners' secondary with a 54-yard touchdown pass of his own to Conor Cosgrove for the 49-6 lead.
- Hartwick rounded out the scoring with another Williams rushing TD with just over 10 minutes remaining and a 20-yard run from Nicholas Massaregli (Pelham, N.Y.).
- Overall, the Hawks ended the afternoon producing 491 yards of total offense.
- Carlvin McDonald (Central Islip, N.Y.) led the way on the ground for the Hawks, picking up 102 yards, while Aldumay posted 127 receiving yards.
- Sobol finished with 199 yards through the air while Baxter ended his day with 71 passing yards.
- Defensively, Ben Kirkland (Buffalo, N.Y.) led the way with tackles, picking up 10 total tackles including a sack for an eight-yard loss.
