St. John Fisher University holds the team lead after day one of the 2025-26 Empire 8 Women’s Golf Invitational, held at Teugega Country Club in Rome, NY on Sunday, Oct. 12. The Cardinals hold a 35-stroke lead over defending champion Nazareth University, while SUNY Geneseo is third overall and Utica University is fourth.
Emma Sweazy of St. John Fisher holds the individual lead with a first-round score of 80, three shots ahead of teammate
Ava Malvaso (83), while fellow Cardinal Sarah Burgess is third with an 87. Nazareth’s Bethany Wineburg and Lainie Liberatore are fourth and fifth, respectively.
Day two gets underway on Monday, Oct. 13 at 10:30 a.m. The team with the lowest score at the conclusion of the four rounds will be crowned Empire 8 Invitational Champion. Individual awards will also be given for lowest two-round scorer, Rookie of the Year (lowest rookie scorer), Coach of the Year and the Empire 8 Torchbearer for Academic Excellence.
